Complete Dentures

Standard dentures are the most cost effective option provided at our clinic. The dentures are fabricated using standard materials and the quality of teeth are composed of a softer layer, hence the dentures may need to be replaced sooner (4-5 yrs). This denture option consists of three appointments to complete the treatment. We will take a generalization of your facial structure to achieve an aesthetically pleasing appearance in the standard dentures.

Upgraded dentures provide you with greater fit and function. The dentures are fabricated to assure comfort. The quality of teeth used in the dentures are composed of a denser material which allows for greater chewing capabilities and in turn won't need replacing as soon as the standard dentures (5-7 years). The upgraded denture option consists of four appointments to complete the treatment. The broader selection of teeth shade and moulds allow us to present you with a natural smile which best suits your facial structure.

Complex dentures are the optimum tissue supportive option we can offer at First Impressions. It includes comprehensive appointments from the impressions to measuring additional facial and jaw records to enable superior fit and function of the dentures. The quality of teeth used are composed of stronger material, which in some cases could last up to 10 years. Patients exhibiting in abnormal jaw positions or presenting with severely shrunken ridges should inquire about this option to accommodate their anomalies and increase rate of success. This treatment consists of five appointments to complete.

Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are sometimes known as surgical dentures. These dentures are inserted after your natural teeth have been extracted, so you never go without having any missing teeth. Since each patient's recovery period and ability to accommodate the immediate denture varies the acceptance will differentiate as well. There are a number of benefits in having immediate dentures:

  • acts like a "band aid" to control the bleeding and swelling
  • allows you to maintain normal function of speech and chewing
  • promotes and shapes the ridges so less resorption occurs
  • maintains facial and lip support preventing TMJ discomfort
  • the shape, size, position and color of teeth can be easily replicated by using your natural teeth as a guide
  • adapting earlier to having dentures in your mouth

As the healing process takes place the tissues will resorb and you might feel movement in the dentures. We will be placing temporary liners to compensate for the tissue resorption that occurs. About 9-12 months after the extractions a permanent reline is necessary to "refit" the tissue surface with a permanent solution. At First Impressions our denturist will recommend the best option for your needs and help determine if an immediate denture is the right choice for you.

Partial Dentures

When teeth are missing the remaining ones can shift and migrate into the space. The shifting could lead to crooked natural teeth, which is difficult to clean in between. This could advance in tooth decay and periodontal disease adding to additional tooth loss. It is important to replace the missing teeth because you can damage the surrounding tissues and risk abnormal chewing & eating habits. Removable partial dentures are fabricated to replace one or more teeth. At First Impressions we offer different types of partials to suit your specific requirements.

Acrylic Partial Dentures

An acrylic partial denture (flipper) is fabricated to replace one or more missing teeth. These types of partials are only recommended as a temporary or transitional denture. They are economical and at times not as comfortable for most patients. They tend to feel more thicker and bulkier. Acrylic flippers are a short term solution while a long term solution is developed. Depending on the number of remaining natural teeth in your mouth sometimes acrylic partials serve only as an esthetic feature rather than for function.

Cast Partial Dentures

Cast partial dentures are stronger, durable, thinner and more hygienic. These type of dentures often  serve as a long term solution to replace the missing teeth. The frameworks are constructed from metal and or titanium. The partial denture itself is composed of the metal framework, acrylic and denture teeth. The cast partial denture fits around your neighbouring teeth and clip onto the natural dentition to keep the denture in place. Cast partial dentures will provide you with maximum support without damaging the surrounding gums and tissues. The success of a cast partial denture is dependent on the quality and health of your natural teeth.
